The Universitat Politècnica de València (UPV) hosted today the formal signing of the donation agreement with the Eduardo Barreiros Foundation, through which the institution provides €20,000 for the project “Recuperar les Memòries: Salvem les fotos UPV.” This initiative, coordinated by the Faculty of Fine Arts and carried out at the Institute of Heritage Restoration (IRP), aims to rescue and preserve thousands of family photographs damaged by the DANA storm that hit the Valencian Community.
The president of the Foundation, Mariluz Barreiros, learned about the project through UPV emeritus professor Pilar Roig and, moved by its cultural and social significance, immediately offered to contribute with a donation that will strengthen its development.
During the visit, the Barreiros family —Cristina Comenge Barreiros and Alberto Comenge Barreiros, together with their spouses— toured the IRP to see first-hand the work led by professors Esther Nebot, Pilar Soriano, and Pedro Vicente, who are in charge of the project. Later, the formal signing ceremony took place in the Rector’s office of the UPV, José Capilla.
In his remarks, Capilla underlined the human value of the initiative: “This project has enormous human value, as it restores to many families part of their personal and emotional history. Thanks to the support of the Eduardo Barreiros Foundation, we can move forward with a unique initiative where art, science and solidarity come together to preserve collective memory.”
The Rector also emphasized the Foundation’s role: “I would like to thank the Eduardo Barreiros Foundation for its commitment to preserving graphic memory after the DANA storm. Society needs examples like this, where the sensitivity of a foundation joins forces with the research and technological expertise of a public university. It is the best proof that together we can achieve a real impact on people’s lives.”
The ceremony was also attended by the Vice-Rector for Internationalization and Communication, José Francisco Monserrat; the Director of the UPV’s Fundraising Area, Toni Pérez; and the Philanthropy Office specialist, Eva Tarazona.
Through this support, the UPV and the Eduardo Barreiros Foundation reaffirm their commitment to safeguarding cultural heritage and passing memory on to future generations.
