Capilla has expressed its gratitude to professor Justo Nieto, the rector who promoted this initiative in the 1999-2000 school year, in response to a phenomenon that, at that time, went unnoticed by most educational institutions. superior of this country. As in other matters, the UPV turned to be a pioneer in the needs of society.

Lifelong Learning:

"The only thing that remains constant is the continuous need to adapt to change", this is how Professor Capilla emphasized the need to continue training throughout life. The UPV, through the work developed in the Lifelong Learning Center, has positioned itself as a reference institution at the European level in the field of lifelong learning. The Senior University comes to complement a need that goes beyond the updating of knowledge in order to respond to changes in the labor market, in line with the position of the European Commission on this issue.

An authentic social network:

Professor Capilla highlighted the role of the Senior University as an authentic social network, "where people from different backgrounds meet with the sole objective of maintaining an active role in society". It is this combination of training offer and meeting space where the Polytechnic University of Valencia completes a policy that involves it, even more, with the society to which it owes.
