UPV Rector José Capilla has highlighted that “cooperation with China allows the university to connect with some of the world’s most advanced technological and industrial ecosystems and generate new opportunities for our students, researchers and business community”.
One of the main milestones of the agenda was the signing of a Framework Cooperation Agreement with Guangzhou University, one of the leading public universities in southern China.
The agreement, signed by José Capilla and Guangzhou University President and Rector WENG Jian, will promote mobility opportunities for students, faculty and researchers, as well as joint projects in research, innovation and knowledge transfer.
The agreement establishes a stable framework for cooperation in teaching, research, technology transfer and culture, in addition to creating a monitoring committee to coordinate the development of specific initiatives in areas of shared interest.
José Capilla has stressed that “this agreement consolidates UPV’s international presence in Asia and opens new opportunities for collaboration in key areas such as engineering, innovation and applied knowledge transfer”.
The institutional agenda also included a meeting with the Guangdong Engineering Survey and Design Industry Association, where both parties discussed the launch of an international internship programme for UPV students in engineering and design companies in the region.
The programme, developed jointly with Guangzhou University, will allow students to undertake training placements in regional companies, combining academic education with direct experience in one of China’s most dynamic industrial environments.
The first group is expected to participate during the 2026-2027 academic year, with limited places and selection processes linked to academic excellence.
In addition, the UPV delegation held an institutional meeting with representatives of the Port of Guangzhou to explore new lines of cooperation related to specialised training, microcredentials for port personnel, master’s student exchanges and research projects focused on green hydrogen, decarbonisation and the blue economy.
The institutional visit to Guangdong forms part of a broader agenda carried out by UPV in China in recent days, which has included participation in the leading international university fair held in Beijing, the first monitoring committee meeting of the BVPI strategic agreements, and meetings with internationally recognised technology and mobility companies such as Geely, Huawei and Unitree Robotics.
Through this agenda, UPV continues to strengthen its international positioning and consolidate strategic alliances with leading universities, companies and institutions within China’s innovation ecosystem.
