Kathryn Gustafson
Originally from Yakima, Washington, she started in textile design in New York before focusing on landscaping in Paris. Founder of Gustafson-Porter and Gustafson-Guthrie-Nichol, she stands out for sustainable and world-renowned designs such as the Westergasfabriek Culture Park in Amsterdam.
Internationality renowned landscaper, known for the creation of unique sculptural environments that adapt to a fundamental human level. Her work revolves mainly around civic and institutional projects, including parks, gardens and common spaces. Her projects include Princess Diana of Wales, Memorial Fountain and the East Bay and Gardens by the Bay in Singapore and the Central Park Valencia.
Kathryn is an honorary member of the Royal Institute of British Architecture and was awarded a medal by the French Academy of Architecture. Among others, she has been awarded the Medal of the American Society of Landscape Architects, the Chrysler Design Award, Drew Jane Award in London and the W. Brunner Memorial Arnold of Architecture Award.
She was appointed Doctor Honoris Causa by agreement of the Governing Council in a session held on 7 November 2013 upon proposal of the School of Architecture, and was awarded such honour on 24 June 2015.
