José Calavera Ruiz

Spanish professor and engineer, known for his outstanding academic and professional career. He is remembered for his contributions in the field of engineering, leaving a significant legacy in education and research in Spain.

Born in Melilla on 23 October 1931.

Completed his Baccalaureate studies at Colegio de Ntra. Sra. de las Maravillas (1940-1948).

Completed a degree in Technical Public Works Engineering (at Escuela Técnica Universitaria de Obras Públicas de Madrid) in 1953.

Completed a degree in Civil Engineering (at Escuela Técnica Superior de Ingenieros de Caminos, Canales y Puertos de Madrid) in 1960.

Completed a doctorate degree in Civil Engineering (at Escuela Técnica Superior de Ingenieros de Caminos, Canales y Puertos de Madrid) in 1967.

He became a Professor of Construction and Prefabrication at the Higher Technical School of Civil Engineering in Madrid in 1982.

PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE:

Technical Director at Mills, S.A., a company engaged in Collapsible Scaffolding and Soldered Metallic Constructions (1958-1961).

Technical Director of Tetracero, S.A. Manufacturer of Reinforcing Bars to create Reinforced Concrete (1959-1967).

Director of the Prefabrication Department at Altos Hornos de Vizcaya (1961-1963).

Private Project Office (1961-1967).

He has been the Chair of the Technical Institute of Materials and Constructions (Intemac) since 1967.

Designer and Project Manager of the Fuente Dé Cable Car (Picos de Europa, Santander).

Designer and Project Manager of the Industrial Cartonera Factory in Alcalá de Henares (Madrid).

Designer of the MAHOU Beer Factory's space frame roof (Madrid).

Designer of TETRACERO, S.A. Factory's space frame roof in Seville.

Designer of the Real Madrid Sports Hall’s space frame roof (Madrid).

Designer and Project Manager of the TETRACERO, S.A. Factory in Torrejón de Ardoz (Madrid).

Designer and Project Manager of the National Livestock Market’s space frame roof in Torrelavega (Santander).

Designer and Project Manager of the Mengíbar Paper Factory (Jaén).

Designer and Project Manager of the Monument to Marina de Castilla (Santander).

Designer of the Sanllehí Paper Factory (Girona).

Since 1967 he has worked at INTEMAC both in Quality Control and Research.

Since 1982 has been Professor of Construction and Prefabrication at the Higher Technical School of Civil Engineering at the Universidad Politécnica de Madrid.

He has been the President of the Arbitration Institute in Construction since 1981.

Since 1990 he has been President of the Applied Hydrodynamics Institute (INHA), an organisation dedicated to carrying out theoretical studies and experiments into issues involving hydrodynamics and aerodynamics applied to Civil Engineering and Architecture.

Since 1990 he has been President of INTEMAC-AUDIT, an organisation dedicated to the Technical and Economic Control of Constructions.
