Recognized expert in hydraulic engineering, professor at the University of South Carolina. He has led international projects and is a prolific author in the field, contributing significantly to water resources research and publication.
Professor Hanif Chaudhry (Pakistan) is considered one of the world’s leading experts in the field of hydraulic engineering. He has developed virtually his entire academic career between Canada and the United States. He is currently Professor of Hydraulic Engineering at the University of South Carolina (Columbia).
He specializes in Water Resources. His contribution to the improved movement of water, both in open channel flow and in pressurized conduits, has undoubtedly had the greatest impact and influence internationally over the past thirty years.
He has served as Associate Professor at Washington State University in Pullman and, since 1997, he has been Professor and Chair of the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University of South Carolina.
Professor Chaudhry has led numerous international development projects for the Institute for Computer Applications in Science and Engineering at NASA, for the Corps of Engineers at the Costa Rican Institute of Electricity, and for the Ecuadorian Institute of Electrification, among others.
He has worked as principal investigator on numerous studies supervised and funded by the National Science Foundation, the Environmental Protection Agency, the Army Corps of Engineers, and other agencies.
Hanif Chaudhry is a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers, the American Society of Mechanical Engineers, and the International Association for Hydraulic Research. He has served as Associate Editor of the Journal of Fluids Engineering of the ASME and, since 1985, as Associate Editor of the Journal of Hydraulic Engineering. From 1986 to 1987, he was Chair of the Hydraulic Committee of the American Society of Civil Engineers.
Hanif Chaudhry has received gold and silver medals and the Leon Luck Award for 1986. He is an Honorary Member of the Department of Civil Engineering. In 1989, he was awarded the AT&T Award for Excellence in Instruction of Engineering Students, an award granted by the American Society for Engineering Education.
Chaudhry is the author and co-author of numerous books, publications, and articles on Hydraulic Engineering.
