Vice President and Chief Information Officer at Harvard from 2010 until her retirement in May 2021. He led the information technology strategy and services that support the University's educational and research mission, overseeing Harvard University Information Technology (HUIT).

Anne Margulies is the Vice President and Chief Information Officer (CIO) of Harvard University, where she is responsible for the strategy, policies, and information technology (IT) services that support the University’s mission of teaching, learning, and research. Anne leads Harvard University Information Technology (HUIT), which provides IT services to 30,000 educators, students, and administrative staff.

In the late 1990s, she served as Associate Provost and Executive Director of Information Systems at Harvard. She later became the Assistant Secretary for Information Technology and Chief Information Officer for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, where she developed and implemented a statewide strategic IT plan and oversaw the consolidation of disparate agencies, data centers, and networks into a coherent statewide structure. In this role, she managed $500 million in annual IT spending and led a community of over 2,000 IT professionals who delivered computing, networking, and application development services across the Commonwealth.

Prior to her role with the Commonwealth, Anne was the founding Executive Director of MIT OpenCourseWare (OCW), MIT’s internationally acclaimed initiative to make the teaching materials for all of its courses openly and freely available online. She was also the founding president of the OCW Consortium, an international organization of 300 universities around the world collaborating to share educational content. As such, OCW was one of the earliest and most influential forerunners of today’s Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs).

As Harvard’s CIO, Anne played a key role in the university’s digital learning initiatives, including HarvardX, which later merged efforts with MIT and other leading universities to form edX—now a global leader in online education, of which the Universitat Politècnica de València (UPV) is also a member.
