The Universitat Politècnica de València (UPV) has presented its 2024 Environmental Awards, recognising the School of Industrial Engineering (ETSII) and Mª Carmen López Andújar from the UPV Childcare Centre for their outstanding contribution to environmental progress at the institution.
The ETSII received the award for achieving the best results in the internal environmental audits, a distinction that includes a €3,000 prize and acknowledges the consolidation of exemplary environmental management practices. The award was accepted on behalf of the school by its director, Ángel Ortiz.
Likewise, Mª Carmen López Andújar was named Best Environmental Liaison 2024, a category created in 2021 to highlight the work of those who promote and strengthen environmental best practices across the UPV.
During the ceremony, José Esteban Capilla stressed that these awards reflect the convergence of responsibility and excellence within the institution. He stated that “sustainability moves forward when excellence and commitment come together; through these awards, the UPV demonstrates its strong environmental vocation”.
Capilla also recalled that the UPV already holds the Triple Seal ‘Calculate, Reduce and Offset’, awarded by the Spanish Ministry for Ecological Transition. As he noted: “the UPV already holds the Triple Seal ‘Calculate, Reduce and Offset’, a recognition that validates the CO₂ absorption measures implemented in recent years”.
He added that this seal demonstrates the institution’s sustained commitment to climate action and continuous improvement, and that “awards like those presented today help strengthen this shared trajectory”.
The awards, approved by the Environmental Committee on 30 January, mark their thirteenth edition, consolidating them as a key instrument for acknowledging and promoting environmental best practices at the UPV.
The ceremony was also attended by Mar Ortega Reig, Director of the Green Transition Area, and Cristina Martí Barranco, Head of the Environmental Unit, together with the award recipients.
